The Rijks Studio

MC3

You are probably all thinking “FINALLY! A post dedicated to something about museums!”

So here it is: The Rijks Studio

Way back when in 2013, the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam launched the Rijks Studio. It was a “ground-breaking new online presentation…”, it made public 125,000 works belonging to its collection.

What does the Rijks Studio do? It invites the public to create their OWN masterpieces by downloading images of artworks. The public are able to use them in a wonderful and creative way. The images are high-resolution and include famous and less well-known works to be freely downloaded. Additionally, you can zoom in, share, add the work to your personal ‘studios’ or manipulate the work ‘COPYRIGHT FREE’.

What can you do with these works apart from all the above mentioned things?

You can have prints made of these new works of art. You can use them to create material, wallpapers, prints or make an iPhone cover. Rijks Studio becomes a space where people can share, create and work alongside each other, creating work. The online world becomes a museum of some sort.

I think it is awesome. I am going to procrastinate so much on it.
